Problem
This is an article with common symptoms and possible workarounds we can suggest if some ReSharper features are missing.
Resolution
Note that ReSharper's menu is located in the Extensions menu by default. How to change this: ReSharper menu isn't visible in top main menu Visual Studio
Look at the following tips one by one:
- check if everything is fine with the license in (Extensions) | ReSharper | Help | License Information;
- check that ReSharper and the required feature support are enabled in (Extensions) | ReSharper | Options | Environment | Products & Features;
- check that file/project is not added to the list in (Extensions) | ReSharper | Options | Code Inspection | Ignored code;
- check the icon at the top of the scroll bar in the file where the problem is. If it’s a
Pauseicon, hover the mouse over it and check what message is shown. Right-click the icon and choose Resume analysis if it's possible. - check if there's (Extension) | ReSharper | Help | Why ReSharper is not available in current file? item. If so, check what message appears when this item is clicked;
- the following article can be useful: ReSharper stopped working for a single specific solution;
- try disabling the (Extensions) | ReSharper | Options | Environment | General | Read solution model... option. If this helped, then collect some information as described here: How to get dumps and logs for ReSharper's project model problems.
- collect the log file and check if there is a similar line in it:
The highlighter ID “SomeName” does not have a registered Visual Studio Text Classification Type for it, and there is no known fallback Visual Studio Text Classification Type Name.
If there is such a line, then take a look at the following article: ReSharper stopped working with "The highlighter ID does not have a registered Visual Studio Text...
- If it is an external file, e.g. an included library header, try enabling Enable inspections, quick fixes, and context actions in files external to the solution on the (Extensions) | ReSharper | Options | Code Editing | C++ | General.
