Why is the memory usage indicator sometimes not shown in the status bar?

Background/Situation

The managed memory display (ReSharper | Options | Environment | General | Show managed memory usage in status bar) in the lower right of the status bar is not always visible. Most of the time it is not visible but still leaves a space for the text, it's just not visible.

Why is the memory usage indicator sometimes not shown in the status bar in Visual Studio?

Answer

This happens when the focus is on another application, not on Visual Studio. When Visual Studio is inactive, most activities are paused. As a result, the memory usage value is not updated during inactivity. To avoid confusion from a frozen number, the indicator is hidden entirely.
