How to collect startup Trace logs for licensing?

Answer

For version 2026.2.3.1 and later, follow the steps below to collect startup Trace logs for licensing:

Open command line (cmd.exe)
Run
```
 set RESHARPER_LOG_TRACE_LICENSING=1
```

Start Visual Studio from the same command line, for example 2026 Community Version:

  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\18\Community\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe

Reproduce the issue
Check %temp%/JetLogs for trace_logs subfolder and open it. Within it find the folder with the timestamp when issue occurred and share the whole folder with us
Remove the env variable with command:
```
set RESHARPER_LOG_TRACE_LICENSING=
```

For versions earlier than 2026.2.3.1

Download logger configuration file LicensingLogConfig.xml
Open command line (cmd.exe)
Set environment variable RESHARPER_LOG_CONF to the path of the downloaded file

set RESHARPER_LOG_CONF=%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\LicensingLogConfig.xml
set RIDER_ORIGINAL_RESHARPER_LOG_CONF=%USERPROFILE%\Downloads\LicensingLogConfig.xml

Start Visual Studio from the command line, for example 2026 Community Version

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\18\Community\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe"

Restart Visual Studio and reproduce an issue (feel free to restart VS multiple times if needed, configuration will stay)
Find resharperLicensing-{processname}-pid.log in the user home directory (%USERPROFILE%), provide it to us. Note that if you running ReSharper in out-of-process mode, then you'll find 2 files with same pid, please provide us both.
