Problem
This is an article with common symptoms and possible workarounds we can suggest if ReSharper shortcuts don't work.
Resolution
Look at the following tips one by one:
- There’s a chance that ReSharper isn’t present in the file. To check this, check if there's (Extension) | ReSharper | Help | Why ReSharper is not available in current file? item. If it’s there, take a look at the article for more details: Troubleshooting guide: ReSharper features are not available in Visual Studio
- In most cases, reapplying the keyboard scheme helps:
- go to ReSharper | Options | Environment | Keyboard | Shortcut Scheme
- choose None the Keyboard Scheme
- click Apply Scheme and then Save
- open ReSharper | Options | Environment | Keyboard | Shortcut Scheme again
- choose Visual Studio/IntelliJ IDEA at Keyboard Scheme
- click Apply Scheme and then Save.
- If it helped but then the issue reoccurred, try disabling the following VS option: Tools | Options | Environment | Accounts | Synchronize Visual Studio settings across devices.
- If both previous suggestions don't help, check if the action (to which shortcut is assigned) actually works, e.g. by calling it from the menu.
- If the menu action works, then check what is assigned to the correspondent action in VS settings Tools | Options | Environment | Keyboard. Click the Press shortcut keys field, hit the shortcut, let's say Ctrl+T and check the action bound to the shortcut at the Shortcut currently used by field.
- If there's some unexpected action set, then reset the current assignment and reapply the keyboard scheme:
- Go to Tools | Options | Environment | Keyboard;
- Press the shortcut in the Press shortcut keys field;
- Look at the Shortcut currently used by dropdown;
- Find all actions from the dropdown in the Show commands containing field and Remove the shortcut mapping for all of them.
- Then reapply the keyboard scheme here: ReSharper | Options | Environment | Keyboard | Shortcut Scheme | Apply Scheme.
- If that still doesn't help, then try resetting settings and assigning shortcut manually.
- Go to Tools | Options | Environment | Keyboard;
- Press the shortcut in the Press shortcut keys field;
- Look at the Shortcut currently used by dropdown;
- Find all actions from the dropdown in the Show commands containing field and Remove the shortcut mapping for all of them;
And map the shortcut manually:
- Type ReSharper.ReSharper_{ActionName} in the Show commands containing field;
- Select Global in the Use new shortcut in dropdown;
- Press the shortcut in Press shortcut keys field | Assign; Also, the following steps may be needed:
- Select Text Editor in Use new shortcut in dropdown;
- Press the shortcut in Press shortcut keys field | Assign;
- Select XAML Designer in Use new shortcut in dropdown;
- Press the shortcut in Press shortcut keys field | Assign.
- If it doesn't help, then try assigning any other shortcut to ReSharper.ReSharper_{ActionName} action, does it help?
- Check that ReSharper license is applied correctly in ReSharper | Help | License Information.
- Sometimes videodrivers or some other software can remap shortcuts, e.g.
- nVidia - Alt+F7
- ROG Armoury Crate - Ctrl+Alt+L, could be also Ctrl+Alt+arrows
- Macrium Reflect 10 backup software - Ctrl-Alt-M
- Ctrl+Space may not work due to PowerToys installed
- there could be also problems with Ctrl+Alt+letter, as in Windows it's possible to create a shortcut for any application and assign a shortcut for it like Ctrl+Alt+letter. This causes that the same shortcut stops working in VS.
- Alt+/, Ctrl+/ and similar with "/" - there is a problem with input language, more can be found here: RSRP-449737.
- Some issues could be caused by ReSharper plugins.
- Serbian, Slovenian, German keyboard, (RSRP-346368) the workaround is:
- Reset the VS keyboard shortcuts (Tools | Options | Keyboard)
- Temporarily set US keyboard
- Set ReSharper keyboard shortcuts (ReSharper | Options | Environment | Keyboard | Shortcut Scheme)
- Go back to your keyboard of choice
- RSRP-439682 ReSharper applies its action to shortcut even Visual Studio one has been selected: Ctrl+Shift+7 , Ctrl+Shift+8
