Toolbox App: The Update button is grayed out

How can I update the IDE if the update option in the Toolbox App is grayed out?

Answer

Hovering over the Update button should provide a hint about the actual cause. But most likely, this happens because the current user lacks permission to access the IDE installation directory. Therefore, there are 2 ways to fix that:

1. Check and fix the permissions for the installation directory, which you can see in ⁝ | Settings, or try running the Toolbox with administrator permissions.

2. Change the installation destination in ⚙️ | Settings | Tools or Ctrl + Comma and install the IDE in the new directory with the valid permissions

   

Also, as a workaround, the new version can be downloaded from www.jetbrains.com and installed manually.
