Problem
The JetBrains Toolbox App downloads and installs IDE versions incompatible with Mac computers using Apple Silicon (ARM architecture).
Cause
The issue occurs because the Intel-based (amd64) version of the Toolbox App is being distributed and run via Rosetta 2. This results in the download of Intel-based IDE versions instead of native ARM (aarch64) versions.
Resolution
-
Verify Toolbox App Version:
- Ensure the JetBrains Toolbox App is an ARM-compatible version. This can be downloaded from www.jetbrains.com/toolbox-app/.
-
Update Toolbox App:
- If the current Toolbox App is running via Rosetta 2, uninstall it.
- Download and install the ARM-compatible version.
-
Reinstall IDEs:
- After installing the correct Toolbox App version, uninstall all currently installed IDEs.
- Reinstall the IDEs through the updated Toolbox App, ensuring native ARM versions are downloaded.
