Resharper installation failed: Failed to install an optional component EtwHostService.msi. Fatal error during installation

Problem

There is the following error during ReSharper installation:

10:31:05.169 |E| InstallerSharedMsiService     | Failed to install an optional component EtwHostService.msi. Fatal error during installation.

Cause

The cause can be found in the log file some number of lines above this error. This is an example of an error:

10:31:05.169 |V| InstallerSharedMsiService     | MSI (s) (CC:5C) [10:31:05:040]: Product: JetBrains ETW Host Service (x64) -- Error 1925. You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine.  Log on as administrator and then retry this installation.

Resolution

This error occurred during the installation of the ETW service, which is an optional component. This service is used for Dynamic Program Analysis (DPA) feature in ReSharper. It can be also installed using a separate installer. But all other installed products should work properly.

It's also possible to disable ETW service installation. To do so, use the following steps:

1. run the installer;
2. go to Options (Options button at the bottom of the window);
3. select the Skip JetBrains ETW Host Service installation option;
4. continue the installation.
