ext-services64.exe high memory usage

Problem

High memory usage by the ext-services64.exe process. The process may affect system performance, particularly during the opening of large solutions or when multiple Visual Studio instances are running.

Resolution

1. Disable Specific Features:

   • Open Extensions | ReSharper | Options | Environment | Products & Features.
   • Disable Grammar and Spelling and SQL/NoSQL features.
   • Restart all Visual Studio instances and observe memory consumption.

2. Limit Memory Allocation:

   • Navigate to %LocalAppData%\JetBrains\Installations\ReSharperPlatformVs17_{VS_ID}\Bin.ExtSvc\bin\ext-services64.exe.vmoptions file (where VS_ID depends on the certain Visual Studio installation)
   • Edit the -Xmx value (default -Xmx2048m) to -Xmx1024m
   • Save the file and restart Visual Studio.
   • Confirm Stability: Test the system performance with the grammar and spelling feature re-enabled to ensure it doesn't introduce delays or other performance issues.
