Question
How to collect ReSharper log file with a specific Trace scenario?
Answer
To collect logs with some Trace scenario:
- select (Extensions) | ReSharper | Navigate | Go to Action;
- type
logger /all - select
Logger Configuration...; - select a specific trace scenario;
- reproduce the issue;
- provide the log file (its location is specified at the top of Logger Configuration tool window);
- don't forget to disable the trace scenario - uncheck previously enabled trace scenarios.
If the log file is large, please upload it to the Upload Service and share the Upload ID with us.
In most of the cases "Verbose" level is enough, so please use it as a default level besides cases when one explicitly asked you to collect logs with the "Trace" level.
How to collect a log file with all Trace scenarios enabled
Launch Visual Studio with the following parameters: /ReSharper.LogFile C:\log\resharper_log.txt /ReSharper.LogLevel Trace.
How to collect a log file with a specific Trace scenario using the command line
- Run Visual Studio with "/ReSharper.Internal" key to start ReSharper in debug mode;
- Open ReSharper | Options | Logging. On that page, ensure that logging is turned on ("FileLogger: Enabled" is displayed at the beginning of the page);
- Turn on the %TraceScenarioName% Trace Scenario (a specific TraceScenarioName will be provided by the JetBrains team);
- Reproduce the problem;
- Provide the resulting log (to get the path to the log file, please go back to ReSharper | Options | Logging, the file path is displayed at the top of the page).
Please don't forget to disable the %TraceScenarioName% scenario after collecting the log file.
