Cannot install ReSharper: all Visual Studio instances are disabled in the installer

Problem

Cannot install ReSharper using the dotUltimate installer because all Visual Studio instances are greyed out for some reason.

Resolution

1. Make sure you are not trying to install ReSharper into:
   • Visual Studio Express edition as it doesn’t provide support for any plugins. Please install some other edition.
   • Visual Studio Code. Visual Studio Code is not the same as Visual Studio. ReSharper is a plugin for Visual Studio, so make sure to install Visual Studio first.
2. If the previous steps did not help, try to restart the PC and launch the ReSharper installer again.
3. If it still doesn't highlight Visual Studio instances, quit the dotUltimate installer and start Visual Studio Installer from the Start menu. Add/remove any component to Visual Studio or update it to the latest version. Once updating is completed, try to run the dotUltimate installer again.
