Question:
Are there additional files generated by Rider that should be ignored?
Answer:
In general, the .idea folder should be excluded in your .ignore file. Folder contains files that the IDE uses for its own purposes. There is no need to add this folder to VCS.
It is recommended to have this entry in your .ignore file
.idea/
Question
What .gitignore or .p4ignore should I use in my Unreal Engine project while working with Rider?
Should I add the RiderLink plugin to my VCS?
Answer:
As a general rule, your repository should contain only files that are required to build a project. There is no need to version files that can be generated from other files. Files that are not needed for your project or that can be generated should not be included. Otherwise it would lead to waste of disk space and non-needed conflicts when someone downloads your latest version into their local workspace. Exceptions are: documentation, readme files and sample code that may help someone with your project.
If you have RiderLink installed in Game (<GameProject>/Plugins/Developer/RiderLink), it is recommended to exclude it from VCS. This plugin only communicates with Rider IDE. But, while being a part of a project, it will be run even for users that use another IDE.
While using Rider with Unreal Engine project, the following entries are recommended to be added to your ignore file:
.idea/
RiderLink/
