Configuring Code Completion to Preselect the First Suggestion

Problem

When using ReSharper, the code completion popup does not automatically select the first suggested item by default. It requires an extra interaction before the suggestion can be accepted with Enter or Tab.

Resolution

To configure ReSharper to automatically preselect the first suggestion in the code completion popup, one needs to adjust the IntelliSense autopopup behavior in the ReSharper:

1. Open the ReSharper settings via ReSharper | Options
2. Navigate to Environment | IntelliSense | Autopopup.
3. Examine the settings for the relevant languages (e.g., C++, C#) and contexts
4. For the desired languages and contexts, ensure that the autopopup behavior is set to Display and preselect.
