How to use dotTrace to inspect threads and application behavior over time

How can one use dotTrace to watch the threads and check their stack?

Answer

To profile an application and review what is happening with specific threads over time, one should:

• Start a new profiling session of the target application
• Collect a snapshot manually via Get Snapshot or collect snapshot automatically by exiting the application under profiling
• Open the snapshot in the dotTrace Viewer. It will be opened automatically as long as Open snapshot immediately option is enabled in the profiler
• Select important thread(s) and inspect the Hotspots and Call Stack
