VMware Cloud Agents doesn't start: guestinfo.tcServerUrl has no value

Symptoms

1. Cloud Agents are running on VMware.
2. The agents fail to start with errors like:

• .vmware.VMWarePropertiesReader - Got non-zero exit code for '/bin/vmware-rpctool "info-get guestinfo.tcServerUrl"': Stdout: Stderr: No value found
• .vmware.VMWarePropertiesReader - Got non-zero exit code for '"C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\rpctool.exe" "info-get guestinfo.tcServerUrl"': Stdout: Stderr: No value found

Cause

It is a known issue with VMWare integration: VMWare cloud agents may fail to fetch server URL from GuestInfo after startup.

Resolution

To work around this issue, the following two properties (introduced in TeamCity 2024.07.2) can be added to the <Build Agent Home>/conf/buildAgent.properties file:

• teamcity.internal.vmware.numRetries=<number of retries>
• teamcity.internal.vmware.retryDelayMs=<delay between retries in ms>

Try adding any number of retries with a reasonable delay of multiple seconds to find the combination that is reliable for the affected environment.
