Cleanup of a snapshot dependency build

Symptoms

• The build should be deleted in accordance with the cleanup rules in effect.
• It's not getting deleted during the clean-up process.
• The clean-up diagnostic report for this build states: Updating directive to preserve 'History entry, Logs' for build as it is a snapshot dependency of build with id <ID>.
• The clean-up rules applied for both the dependency and dependent builds have Do not prevent dependency artifacts cleanup option enabled.

Cause

The Do not prevent dependency artifacts cleanup option affects only the cleanup of the artifacts.

TeamCity always preserves builds that are used as snapshot dependencies in other builds. These builds are not deleted from build history by the clean-up procedure until dependent builds are deleted.

Resolution

This is by design. For the build that is a snapshot dependency of other builds to be deleted by the cleanup, the dependent builds must be cleaned up first.
