Question
Does the latency of the TeamCity Server to TeamCity Database connection affect TeamCity performance? What is the recommended latency?
Answer
The latency of the connection between TeamCity Server and TeamCity Database affects the performance.
To render a single UI page, TeamCity may need to run tens, or even hundreds, of SQL queries. If each query is multiplied by the latency between TeamCity Server and the TeamCity database (even, let's say, 30 ms latency), it may lead to a significant performance penalty.
The recommendation is to have the TeamCity Server and the TeamCity Database in the same network, with a latency of 0.3-1 ms.
Additional information
The latency can be measured using the ping command from the TeamCity Server machine to the machine with the TeamCity Database.
