Question
The TeamCity build agent distribution installs 64-bit Java, which can't be started on 32-bit Windows. Is it possible to start the TeamCity build agent on an x86 Windows machine?
Answer
As mentioned in the Supported Java Versions for TeamCity Agent documentation page, it's recommended to use 64-bit Java. The agent distribution comes bundled with Amazon Corretto 64-bit Java 17.
If 32-bit Java is required, it is possible to use a non-bundled Java to run the agent on:
The latest available x86 Java distribution is Java 11, which is outdated, but still supported by TeamCity 2025.11. However, we plan to drop support for Java versions older than Java 21 with the release of TeamCity 2026.1. Which means that running TeamCity 2026.1 (and later) build agent on 32-bit Windows will not be possible.
