How to install WebLogic 14 on macOS and Windows

The WebLogic plugin is unbundled but still exists on the marketplace.

Use Windows 10/11 OS, macOS(Intel and Apple Silicon CPU), and JDK 8.

Install

Download

• Have an account on the official Oracle website.
• Download JDK 8 and WebLogic (v 14) installer from the Oracle website https://www.oracle.com/middleware/technologies/fusionmiddleware-downloads.html.
• Set this JDK to JAVA_HOME environment variables (optional for macOS).

Please download Java SE Development Kit 8u202 from https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/javase8-archive-downloads.html , a newer version of JDK 8 will not work.

Install

• Installer is a jar file.
• Open command line prompt under administrator on Windows or terminal on macOS.
• Ensure the right JDK is set on Windows: java -version
• Go to the jar directory, for example, C:\Users\username\AppServers\WebLogic
• Run the jar using Java 8: path_to_jdk1.8.0_202.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -D64 -Xmx1024m -jar ./fmw_14.1.1.0.0_wls_lite_quick_generic.jar -ignoreSysPrereqs
• The installation and then configuration wizards will be launched. Please leave all defaults.
• Remember the paths.
• Remember the User and Password!

Prepare a project

• Jakarta EE 8
• JDK 8
• Example: weblogic-test.zip

Create Run configuration in IDEA

• Add Weblogic Server
  • WebLogic Home = Oracle Home (by default C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_Home, or macOS /Users/yourname/wls1411)
• Set User and Password defined in wizards
• Set Domain Path, usually will be automatically detected. It will be something like C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_Home\user_projects\domains\base_domain
• Select Admin Server = Admin Server

Run

• Run and debug should work
• Application is available on URL http://localhost:7001/projectname-1.0-SNAPSHOT/hello-servlet
