Problem

SHELL environment variable output is different for IntelliJ IDEA and OS

in the IntelliJ IDEA terminal: SHELL=/bin/sh in the system terminal: SHELL=/bin/bash

Solution

The $SHELL variable is used to store the path to your default shell, not which shell you're currently running.
