How to configure printing in WSL to avoid "No print service found" error

Question

When using remote development and connecting to the remote WSL instance, printing fails with the "No print service found" error. How can I print from the JetBrains Client in WSL?

Reason

Printing works on the host IDE instance, and IDE is looking for the printer service / driver in WSL which is not available by default.

Solution

Install print service (CUPS) and some printer driver (PDF) inside WSL.

1. Install CUPS, see here for details.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install cups
sudo service cups start

2. Install a PDF printer driver.

sudo apt-get install printer-driver-cups-pdf

3. Stop and start the host IDE instance, printing should work now. Printed documents can be found in the /home/<user>/PDF directory.
