While running a Java project with a Bazel build system, at some point a test source root directory (`/src/test/java/`) is being re-assigned as a source root directory instead

Solution

When a build system like Bazel is used in a project, all the Content Root configuration is delegated to a build system, and all the manual changes will be deleted on the next build system sync

In the .bazelproject file, locate or add the test_sources section. This is where you define the directories containing your test sources. It typically looks something like this:

  path/to/your/source/directory

test_sources:
  path/to/your/test/directory
