What's project settings?

Project settings are the settings (File | Settings) which are specifically effective for your current project. It's associated to each project only, and it will not affect other projects. For more details, please refer to https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/configure-project-settings.html

Ways of configuring project settings for new projects*:

*What's a new project?

A new project means a project created from the File | New menu list. Or open a project where the .idea folder does not exist. When the project is pulled from VCS and the .idea/workspace.xml is not ignored by git, it will still use the project settings defined in workspace.xml file.

**Notice: The project default setting will be applied to the new projects which are created or opened after the default settings are saved.

Option 1

In the main menu, go to File | New Projects Setup | Settings for New Projects.

In the Welcome Wizard, click ⚙️ | Settings Configure the Settings with icon:

How to find the default project settings file?

The project default setting will be stored in Configuration Directory/options/project.default.xml
