Problem
Users encounter difficulty in directly inputting accented characters (e.g., é, â, ~) in JetBrains IDEs using the Brazilian ABNT2 keyboard layout on Arch Linux operating system. These characters cannot be typed with the keyboard, although pasting them from the clipboard works.
Cause
The issue appears to be related to the configuration of input method frameworks, such as IBus, which handle keyboard input.
Resolution
Ensure the appropriate input method engine, such as IBus, is correctly installed and configured:
-
Verify the presence of IBus or similar input method software. On Arch Linux, this can be done using the following command:
pacman -Qs ibus -
If IBus is not installed, add it using:
sudo pacman -S ibus -
Enable IBus to autostart by adding it to your desktop environment's startup applications or by including the following line in your
.xprofileor equivalent startup script:ibus-daemon -drx -
Log out and log back in to the desktop environment to apply the changes.
Once configured, the accents should function as expected in all text input fields of JetBrains IDEs when using the Brazilian ABNT2 keyboard layout.
