Statement
Starting with version 2025.1, the modal commit dialog is disabled. More info here. You can adjust the non-modal commit tool window so that it behaves more like the old modal commit dialog.
How to configure the non-modal commit so it behaves like the modal one?
-
Place the non-modal dialog in the old location (as a Git tab)
- Go to Settings | Advanced Settings and untick Enable Commit tool window
-
Jump to the source file or diff on double-click/Enter
- In the Commit tool window, click
⋮and enable this behavior.
-
Show Diff in editor vs. separate window
There are several ways to achieve this:
- In the diff view, click the gear icon ⚙️ and enable Show Diff in Separate Window.
- Right-click a file in the Commit tab and select Show Diff in a New Tab.
- Go to Settings | Advanced Settings and enable Open Diff as Editor Tab.
-
Commit controls visibility
- Go to Settings | Advanced Settings and enable Toggle Commit Controls.
- This allows commit controls to be either always visible or toggleable.
-
Commit as a centered window
- In the Commit tool window, click
⋮, then select View Mode, and then select Window or Float.
-
Vertical tool window size priority
Go to Settings | Appearance & Behavior | Appearance, then in the Tool Windows sections enable Widescreen tool window layout.
