IDE shows submodule branch instead of root branch in the VCS widget

Problem

When working on a repository with Git submodules, the VCS widget in the window title/header displays the branch name of the submodule instead of the root repository branch. On hovering, it also shows "root: submodule". This issue persists even after switching to another branch in the root repository.

Cause

The VCS widget in the IDE follows the last opened file in the IDE editor. If the file belongs to a submodule repository, the widget displays the branch checked out in the submodule repository.

Resolution

To switch the VCS widget back to the main repository:

1. Open a file from the main/root repository in the editor.
2. The widget will then display the branch of the root repository where the file resides.
