Problem
In the Branches popup (opened via the Git widget or Git | Branches), pressing Shift+Insert does not paste clipboard contents into the speed search/input field unless the cursor has been explicitly placed inside that field.
Ctrl+V behaves differently and pastes into the same field even when it is not explicitly focused, so the two paste shortcuts are inconsistent for keyboard-only workflows.
Reproduces on Windows, with both English and non-English keyboard layouts; the layout in use does not affect the behavior.
Cause
Known bug in the IntelliJ Platform Git plugin, tracked as IJPL-231643. The Branches popup does not route the Shift+Insert keystroke to the embedded speed search field unless that field already has explicit focus.
Resolution
Until the bug is fixed, use one of the following workarounds:
- Click into the input field at the top of the Branches popup before pressing Shift+Insert.
- Use Ctrl+V to paste — it works in the speed search field without requiring explicit focus.
