Problem
The Git | Worktrees panel is unavailable or not visible in the IDE. The Git menu does not show a Worktrees option. The issue occurs in a project that contains multiple Git repositories (multi-root project), while the feature works normally in another project with a single Git repository.
Cause
Git worktree support in IntelliJ IDEA 2026.1 is limited to single-repository projects, where one Git root equals the project root. Projects with multiple Git roots — including:
- projects opened at a directory that contains several Git repositories,
- projects with Git submodules,
- projects where worktrees themselves have been added as additional roots,
are not yet supported. The Worktrees UI is hidden for such projects.
Resolution
This is a known limitation tracked in IJPL-239027.
No workaround is currently available.
