Problem
IDE reports that Git cannot be run due to the incorrect version of WSL:
Resolution
To address the issue, follow these steps:
-
Verify the WSL distribution version: Run the following command in the command line to check the WSL version associated with the distribution:
wsl.exe --list --verboseIf the output shows
VERSION: 1, the distribution is indeed running under WSL1. -
Update WSL distribution to WSL2 (requires admin rights):
-
If administrative rights are not available:
- Refer to the workaround mentioned in YouTrack Issue IJPL-112291. Note that using WSL1 is not officially supported, and there are no guarantees for its full functionality.
-
Additionally, verify the
wsl.exelocation: Ensure that wsl installation location (e.g.C:\Windows\System32) is present in the%PATH%environment variable. Verify by running:echo %PATH%If the directory is missing, manually add it to the system environment variables.
