Problem
Code modifications highlighting (powered by version control) stops working sporadically. Sometimes it works as expected sometimes modified/added/deleted lines are not highlighted at all in the editor. To fix the issue temporarily it is required to reopen the project or trigger a full reindex.
Cause
The issue occurs due to inconsistent directory mappings caused by renaming the project folder from uppercase letters (e.g. MCU) to lowercase letters (e.g. mcu). Since git is case-insensitive by default on Windows, it does not handle such changes consistently, resulting in mapping conflicts within the IDE.
Resolution
-
Enable case-sensitive behavior in Git by configuring the appropriate settings:
git config core.ignorecase false -
Properly rename the project folder using the following Git command to ensure consistency in mapping:
git mv <old_directory_path> <new_directory_path> -
Relaunch IDE and confirm that the Git change highlighting functionality is restored.
