Failure to clone a GitLab repository: intellij-git-askpass-local.sh: Permission denied

Problem

User's home directory is mounted on a network drive with the noexec option, which prevents execution of scripts. When trying to clone a GitLab repository from the IDE UI - the operation fails with the following error:

cannot exec '<user home directory>/.cache/JetBrains.IntelliJIdea2025.1/tmp/intellij-git-askpass-local.sh': Permission denied
could not read Username for '<repo url>': No such device or address

Cause

The IDE uses a script: to handle git authentication with remote repositories. This script is located in the IDE system directory. Since the system directory is located in the /home path by default, the script cannot be executed in the noexec mount.

Resolution

• To work around it, you can try to change the location of the IDE system directory to a path that is not in the /home folder.
