Uncommitted changes are lost after aborting Smart Checkout merge

Problem

After using the Smart Checkout feature and aborting the changes during a conflicting merge while switching to a branch, uncommitted changes appear to be lost.

Resolution

To locate the missing files:

1. Open the Commit tool window and navigate to the Shelf tab. Verify if the changes were shelved automatically. The Shelving and Unshelving Changes guide may help further in understanding this functionality.
2. Alternatively, use the Local History feature to check the project's historical changes. This may include edits from before the Smart Checkout operation occurred. Detailed instructions can be found in the Local History guide.
