Problem
User tries to clone the organization's repository in his IDE UI via Git > Clone.. > GitHub option. During authentication GitHub webpage opens and shows: Authentication Succeeded, but when the user returns to the IDE - there is a message: Authentication Failed.
The IDE log has the following records:
INFO - #git4idea.commands.GitHandler - Authentication request was cancelled
INFO - #git4idea.commands.GitHandler - Authentication request was cancelled
INFO - #git4idea.commands.GitHandler - remote: Repository not found.
INFO - #git4idea.commands.GitHandler - fatal: Authentication failed for 'https://github.com/one-thd/pec-orchestrator/'
Cause
When using OAuth authentication method to authenticate to GitHub from the IDE, it is required to:
- Provide permissions to the OAuth app to have access to the user's account (done by user)
- Provide permissions to the OAuth app to have access to the organizaton's data (done by organization administrator)
Resolution
- Ask the organization administrator to allow the IDE OAuth app to access the organization's repositories
- In case an organization administrator denies access to the OAuth app, it is possible to try with the personal access token instead: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/github.html#-hbpghs_26
