In the Commit window - the checkboxes to commit specific files are missing

Problem

The checkboxes and "commit files" button previously available for selecting specific files to commit have disappeared in the Commit window.

Cause

This issue is caused by the fact that modal commit interface is enabled. In case of modal commit dialog - the checkboxes and the Commit button is available only when the actual dialog is open (Ctrl/Cmd+K).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

1. Disable the option - Settings (⌘ + , or Ctrl + Alt + S) > Advanced Settings > Version Control > Use modal commit interface for git and mercurial

Notice

Modal commit exists in 2025.1 as a plugin. In Settings | Plugins | Installed, it should be automatically bundled. The name is "Git Modal commit Interface"

Make sure the plugin is enabled, then go to Settings | Advanced Settings, have "Use modal commit interface" enabled.
