Problem
Ctrl + . in IntelliJ IDE results in an unintended popup "e" character instead of the expected context actions menu (or other actions, depending on the keymap)
Cause
The issue arises because the iBus system on Linux, particularly in its emoji input feature, intercepts the Ctrl + . key combination before IntelliJ IDEA can process the shortcut. This behavior redirects the key event to open the emoji input selector, overriding IntelliJ IDEA's intended functionality.
Resolution
To resolve this conflict, disable or reconfigure the interfering setting in iBus:
- Open your system settings and navigate to Region & Language (specific steps might vary depending on your Linux distribution and desktop environment).
- Locate and open the Manage Installed Input Methods option to access the iBus Preferences.
- In the Emoji settings, modify or remove the keyboard shortcut for opening the emoji dialog or disable the feature altogether if not needed.
- Restart IntelliJ IDE and reattempt using the
Ctrl + .keybinding to confirm the issue is resolved.
