Background/Situation
Within IDEs users often use keyboard shortcuts to enhance productivity. Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut for selecting or clearing the branch filter in the Git tool window (Log pane).
Question
How can I assign a keyboard shortcut for selecting or clearing a branch in the Git pane?
Answer
Currently, IDEs do not provide a direct keyboard shortcut for clearing or selecting the branch filter in the Git Log pane. However, there is an existing usability improvement suggestion tracked under issue ID IJPL-89255. Users are encouraged to vote and follow this issue for updates.
As a workaround, you can record a macro following the sequence of actions:
- Go to Edit > Macros > Start Macro Recording.
- Use the predefined shortcut
Alt+9to open the Git pane. - Press the
Tabkey multiple times (e.g. 7 times) until the branch filter is selected. - Confirm your selection/deselection using the
Spacekey. - Stop the macro recording, give it a name and save it.
- Assign a specific keyboard shortcut to this macro in Settings (⌘ + , or Ctrl + Alt + S) > Keymap > Macros.
