Git submodules not showing up in the Branches pane of Git tool window

Problem

Only the main repository is showing up in the Branches pane of the Git tool window. No submodule repositories are displayed.

Cause

There could be some missing configuration for directory mappings or some display settings / filters are not configured properly.

Resolution

Please check the following:

• Submodule roots are identified/added in Settings (⌘ + , or Ctrl + Alt + S) > Version Control > Directory Mappings
• The Group By option in the Branches pane of the Git tool window has enabled Repository
• There are no values specified in the Paths filter in the Log pane of the Git tool window
