Problem
IDE fails to start after update with one of the following error messages or similar:
PluginException: Can't find bundle for base name messages.AndroidBundle, locale fr_FR [Plugin: com.jetbrains.codeWithMe]PluginException: Can't find bundle for base name messages.LLMBundle, locale en_GB [Plugin: com.jetbrains.codeWithMe]
Cause
This happens because the action in the affected plugin refers to a message bundle that cannot be found due to the corruption of the plugin files.
Resolution
- Run the IDE from the terminal with the
disableNonBundledPluginsparameter to start it without custom plugins, for example:-
Windows:
idea64.exe disableNonBundledPlugins -
macOS:
open -na "IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate.app" --args disableNonBundledPlugins -
Linux:
idea disableNonBundledPlugins
-
Windows:
- Navigate to
File | Settings | Pluginsfor Windows and Linux, orIntelliJ IDEA | Settingsfor macOS - Use the search bar to find the affected plugin, select it, and uninstall via a dropdown menu.
- Click Ok and restart the IDE to apply changes
- When it reopens, return to
File | Settings | Plugins, switch to the Marketplace tab, and install the plugin
Note: For IDEs before 2025.2, the error message unfairly points to the CodeWithMe plugin as the root cause, though it might be any custom plugin. To resolve the issue, reinstall the IDE from scratch or update to the latest version. See issue Don't fail to start if some action cannot be loaded because of unresolved message bundle for more details.
