Problem
When attempting to push changes to a remote Git repository (like GitHub) from the IDE, the operation fails. The console shows the following errors:
error: RPC failed; HTTP 400 curl 22 The requested URL returned error: 400
fatal: the remote end hung up unexpectedly
Committing changes locally works fine.
Cause
This error often occurs when the size of the data being pushed exceeds the default Git HTTP post buffer size configured on the client machine. The HTTP 400 error indicates a bad request, which in this context can be triggered by the server rejecting a push that's too large for the configured buffer.
Resolution
- Increase the Git HTTP post buffer size. This can be done by running the following command in the IDE terminal or in the system's command line:
git config --global http.postBuffer 524288000
git config --global https.postBuffer 524288000
This command sets the buffer size to 500MB (524288000 bytes). It might be needed to adjust this value depending on the size of the pushed data. After executing the command, try pushing the changes again.
- Split your changes into smaller batches: If the changes being uploaded are too big, you can consider pushing them in smaller batches to avoid overloading the remote server.
