Question
I have a mixed C++ and C# solution in Rider. My C++ project has a corresponding GTest unit test project, and I need to calculate unit test coverage. However, the Unit Test Explorer → Cover Unit Test action is greyed out.
Why is this problem occurring, and how can I enable test coverage for my C++ project?
Answer
This problem occurs because Rider and dotCover do not support native (C++) test coverage. The built-in coverage tooling is designed exclusively for .NET code and does not cover native C++ test execution.
Because native C++ test coverage is fundamentally unsupported by the IDE, the Unit Test Explorer → Cover Unit Test option will remain disabled for native projects. There are currently no plans to implement native coverage support in the foreseeable future.
