dotCover Snapshot Failure with Obfuscated DLLs

Problem

The dotCover snapshot does not reflect coverage after application interactions. In the dotCover log, you may see one of the following errors:

00001E48 1 13870A68 ERROR: Failed to get method body: COR_E_BADIMAGEFORMAT The format of a DLL or executable being loaded is invalid. (hresult_error:8007000B)

Cause

The primary cause of this issue is the use of code-obfuscated DLLs in the application. dotCover does not support obfuscated DLLs due to technical limitations.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:

1. Exclude obfuscated DLLs from coverage analysis in dotCover.
   • Navigate to File → Edit Coverage Filters in the dotCover interface.
2. If possible, avoid using obfuscated DLLs for code coverage scenarios.

Currently, there are no plans to add support for obfuscated DLLs in dotCover.
