View as Code Requires Edit Permissions

Problem

Users with View build configuration settings permission may see the View as code option but receive a permissions error when opening it:

An error occurred during DSL generation: You do not have enough permissions to edit build configuration with id:
<BuildConfigurationId>

Cause

TeamCity incorrectly checks for edit permissions when generating the DSL code.

This behaviour is tracked in:

Users with view-settings permission are not able to see DSL - Users with view settings permission are not able to see the DSL.

Resolution

The issue is fixed in TeamCity 2026.2.

Upgrade to TeamCity 2026.2 (due in September 2026) or later to resolve the problem. On earlier versions, granting edit permissions may work as a temporary workaround, but it provides more access than required.
