Get the ID of the parent matrix build from the generated dependency build

Question

Matrix Build build feature generates new virtual build configurations for every combination of matrix parameter values. The matrix build effectively behaves like a parent configuration for these generated snapshot dependencies.

Is it possible to get the parent build's ID from the build of the generated virtual build configuration?

Answer

There are no pre-defined parameters to get the ID of the parent build that triggered the dependent build from within this dependent build.

However, it is possible via the REST API. The following request will respond with the parent build:

GET /app/rest/builds/buildType:(id:<ParentBuildTypeID>),snapshotDependency:(from:(id:<CurrentBuildID>)),defaultFilter:false

Where:

<ParentBuildTypeID> is the ID of the parent build configuration.
<CurrentBuildID> is the ID of the current dependent build.
