Question
How is TeamCity Cloud Enterprise different from TeamCity On-Premises?
Answer
TeamCity Cloud Enterprise is mostly the same in functionality as the on-premises versions of TeamCity. The main differences between them are:
- TeamCity Cloud Enterprise is hosted, maintained, and updated by JetBrains. TeamCity On-Premises, as a self-hosted solution, requires maintenance.
- Some third-party plugins may not be installed on the TeamCity Cloud Enterprise instance. The list of supported plugins provides more details.
- TeamCity Cloud Enterprise has JetBrains-hosted build agents ready to use while also allowing the use of self-hosted agents. This article provides more details. JetBrains-hosted build agents are not available for TeamCity On-Premises.
- TeamCity Cloud Enterprise and TeamCity On-Premises have different licensing models. The documentation provides more details: TeamCity Cloud Enterprise Subscription and Licensing TeamCity On-Premises Licensing
- In TeamCity Cloud, the NuGet feed is not available out of the box. However, it can be enabled on demand.
- Non-default agent tools are not available for the JetBrains-hosted build agents. The JetBrains-hosted agents come with all default agent tools preinstalled. If non-default agent tools are required, the self-hosted build agents should be used.
- It's not currently possible to use external S3 artifact storage in TeamCity Cloud. TeamCity Cloud uses S3 to store artifacts by default, but it cannot be changed; it's not currently possible to use own S3 storage.
- JetBrains manages TeamCity Cloud's upgrades. The related functionality in the UI is not available to users.
- Multinode setup is not available for the TeamCity Cloud users. The infrastructure is managed by JetBrains.
