Publishing artifacts after the build agent was released

Question

The build configuration releases the build agent before the build is finished. The build artifacts are produced after the build is detached from an agent. How can these artifacts be published?

Answer

Currently, artifacts can only be uploaded from the build agent when the build is running, be it via the service messages or when the build has finished all the steps on the agent. There is no out-of-the-box supported method to upload artifacts from an external process.
