Answers to the questions raised most often about the Air plugin. General questions about licensing, supported IDEs, and organization controls are answered in the Air in IDEs overview.

| Accounts and subscriptions | |
| Can a Claude Pro or Max subscription be used in Air in IDEs? | Yes, through Claude Code in the terminal. The chat uses an SDK integration, and the Anthropic terms do not allow a subscription there. Claude Code must be installed on the machine. 1) In the Agent Sessions tool window, click the arrow next to New Session and select Manage Agents. 2) On the Claude card, select Terminal. 3) Start a new session with a Claude preset. See: Air IDE plugin: Support Claude subscription (OAuth) login for Claude Agent, How to use Claude Subscription in Air in JetBrains IDEs, Use Claude subscription |
| Which accounts can an agent use? | A session uses one of three sources. Select the source with the account button below the prompt field. Agent login is the agent's own login, for example a ChatGPT account for Codex. JetBrains AI works with Claude Agent, Codex, and Junie. A third-party provider can be added in Settings | Tools | Air | Accounts, for example with an API key. The source also defines who bills the usage. See: Configure agent authorization |
| Air and AI Assistant | |
| What is the difference between Air and AI Assistant? |
AI Assistant provides JetBrains AI features such as AI Chat, code completion, and AI Actions. Air is an agent workspace for Junie and other ACP agents, with presets, session diffs, and parallel sessions. Both plugins can be used together. See: Comparison with AI Assistant |
| AI Actions, AI Chat, or Generate Commit Message disappeared after installing Air | These are AI Assistant features. Installing Air from the AI Assistant notification disables AI Assistant. AI Assistant can be enabled again without removing Air: 1) Open the Agent Sessions tool window. 2) Click the three-dots icon and select Open AI Assistant. 3) Confirm the action. Commit message generation inside Air is tracked in Add Air AI actions for generating commit messages and pull request details. See: AI Actions missing from the editor context menu after switching to the Air plugin, Return to AI Assistant |
| How to turn off Air? | In 2026.2, Air is a Marketplace plugin, so it can be disabled or uninstalled in Settings | Plugins. In 2026.3, Air is bundled, so it can be disabled but not uninstalled. Restart the IDE after the change. See: Disable Air in IDEs |
| Keeping Air in the background | |
| How to hide the agent prompt in an empty editor? | 1) Open Help | Find Action, type Registry, and select Registry. 2) Clear the air.inline.empty.state.prompt option. 3) Close and reopen an editor tab, or restart the IDE. See: How to hide the agent prompt in the empty editor area? |
| Can sessions open in a tool window instead of editor tabs? | Yes. In Settings | Tools | Air | Chat, select Show chats in separate toolwindow. Sessions then open in the Chat tool window on the right side of the IDE. See: Open sessions in the Chat tool window |
| How to stop agents from updating automatically? | In Registry, clear llm.chat.agent.acp.auto.update.enabled to get a prompt before each update. To turn off update checks entirely, clear llm.chat.agent.acp.update.enabled. Restart the IDE after the change. See: How to disable automatic agent update when opening a session |
| Working with agents | |
| How to undo changes made by an agent? | 1) Click Branch Changes in the top-right corner of the session tab. 2) In the diff viewer, click the revert icon in the gutter next to the change. To show only the changes of the latest request, set the scope to Last Turn. See: Review all uncommitted changes |
| Can an agent run in Docker, a Dev Container, or a sandbox? | Not yet. Sessions run locally, in a temporary worktree, or in the cloud. As a workaround, an agent that runs in a Docker container can be registered as a custom ACP agent in ~/.jetbrains/acp.json. IDE tools are not available inside the container. See: Air plugin: run agent sessions in Docker/alternatives, [AIR Plugin |
| Cursor agent: no reasoning effort, context size, or fast mode | Air in IDEs does not offer these options for the Cursor agent yet. Model selection works. See: Reasoning effort is not offered for the Cursor ACP agent |
| Antigravity agent shows no Claude or GPT models | This is a known bug. The fix is in progress. See: Air chat: Antigravity ACP client doesn't show Claude and GPT models |
| Troubleshooting | |
| How to report a problem with Air? | In the Agent Sessions tool window, right-click the session and select Report a Problem. Air attaches the session archive and the IDE logs to the report. See: How to collect logs to troubleshoot the Air plugin in JetBrains IDEs |
