Question
How do I collect the logs that the JetBrains team needs to investigate a problem with the Air plugin?
Answer
Short answer:
- Use Report a Problem method if you haven't reported anything yet. It collects session data and IDE logs and sends them in a single step.
- If the upload fails or you already have a support ticket open, send the diagnostic data manually.
If you haven't reported the problem yet
You can contact our technical support directly from the IDE:
-
In the Agent Sessions tool window, right-click the affected session and select Report a Problem:
You can also click the flag icon under the last agent response in the session.
-
Describe the problem in the form that opens and submit it.
Air uploads two archives, Air Session Archive and IDE Logs and Diagnostic Data, and adds their links to the support request. Only JetBrains employees can open these uploads.
Our support engineers will check the logs and get back to you with an explanation, solution or additional questions.
If you need to send additional info to support
Before reproducing the problem:
Enable extended logging:
-
Go to Help | Diagnostic Tools | Debug Log Settings
-
Add the following line to the text field:
com.intellij.air -
If it's a connectivity issue (network, proxy, firewall, etc.), add these:
com.intellij.util.io.HttpRequestscom.intellij.util.proxy.CommonProxyIf you use a proxy, also go to Help | Edit Custom VM Options and add these:
-Djdk.httpclient.HttpClient.log=ALL-Dair.acp.transport.file.log=true⚠️ Warning:
-Djdk.httpclient.HttpClient.log=ALLcan expose sensitive data in the logs, e.g. authorization headers. Make sure to: - Remove any sensitive data before you share the logs - Remove the VM option after collecting the logs -
Restart the IDE
-
Reproduce the problem
After reproducing the problem:
Include the session information if needed:
-
In the Agent Sessions tool window, right-click the affected session and select Copy Session Info | Session ID. A string will be copied, e.g.:
acp:bb8a5cab- save it -
In the same context menu for the same session, select Copy Session Info | Session Log:
This will create a
<session_name>.airsessionfile and copy it to clipboard. -
⚠️ Paste the file anywhere in your system, open it and make sure to remove any sensitive data from it.
Upload logs and share upload info with support:
- Back in the IDE, use Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data to collect IDE logs
- Upload the log archive together with the
.airsessionfile securely to https://uploads.jetbrains.com - Send the following to support:
- Upload ID for the two log files
- Session ID as a text string
