The IDE failed to install or update some plugins. AccessDeniedException: codeium ... language_server_windows_x64.exe

Problem

Error when attempting to update the Windsurf (Codeium) plugin to the latest version.

The process failed, and received an error message indicating that access to a specific file was denied.

Cause

The issue is caused by the Windsurf (Codeium) plugin. The plugin starts its own .exe process, which, according to Windows OS limitation, you can't delete since it is considered a running executable application. The plugin should be able to provide functions to exit its own language server.

Solutions

• Instead of clicking on "Restart" in the IDE dialog, close the IDE manually and open it again -> the error will not appear and the plugin will be updated
• Alternatively, kill all child processes called language_server_windows_x64.exe in Windows Task Manager, then update from the IDE again
• If it still doesn't work, close the IDE, manually delete the folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\JetBrains\IdeaIC2024.3\plugins\codeium, then start the IDE again and re-install the plugin via the menu File | Settings | Plugins.
