Question
My IDE shows its menus and dialogs in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. How do I switch it back to English?
Answer
Since version 2024.2, the Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, and Korean language packs are bundled with IntelliJ-based IDEs. You do not need to install a plugin for the IDE to use one of these languages. For example, the first-start Language and Region dialog preselects the language when the OS language is Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, or Korean.
To switch the IDE to English:
- Open the Settings dialog:
Ctrl+Alt+Son Windows and Linux,Cmd+,on macOS. - Go to Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Language and Region. In a localized UI, Appearance & Behavior is the first group in the Settings tree.
- In the Language list, select English.
- Restart the IDE when it asks you to.
You can also disable the language pack. Open Settings | Plugins, select the Installed tab, and search for Language Pack. Clear the checkbox next to the pack, then restart the IDE. When the selected language pack is disabled, the IDE uses English.
In IDE versions 2024.1 and earlier, the language packs are not bundled. Disable the Chinese, Japanese, or Korean plugin in Settings | Plugins as described above.
