Invalid authentication data while working with GitHub Pull Requests functionality

Symptoms

Git operations related to pull requests functionality could not be completed within IDE. One of the following errors occur:

• Invalid authentication data. Re-Login
  

• Could not connect to repository <url> with account github.com/<account>
  Request response: Access to this site has been restricted. If you believe this is an error, please contact https://support.github.com. Log in again...
  

The error occurs in the Github toolwindow. Any error related to git operation at the same time finishes with error is irrelevant.

Cause

Github blocked IntelliJ IDEs from accessing pull requests functionality as a mitigation of security issue described in our blog

Resolution

Update the IDE to one of the versions mentioned in the blog post
