Fix unable to open files from cloud folders and Maven import failed after 2026.2 upgrade

Question

After upgrading to IDE version 2026.2, files opened from cloud-synced folders such as OneDrive or Dropbox appear briefly and then close shortly after being opened.

Also, the Maven project is reloaded endlessly, creating multiple copies.

How to fix these issues?

Answer

This is a known issue with the new file system integration that was introduced in 2026.2. Tracked by: Files from cloud-synced folders (OneDrive, Dropbox) are closed automatically after opening (Windows), Maven project is reloaded endlessly, creating multiple copies (2026.2).

Workarounds

1. Open Registry (Press ⇧Shift twice to open the search window → Actions → Registry...), then find key vfs.windows.use.buffered.directory.stream and unset the checkbox, restart IntelliJ IDEA.
2. Alternatively, install the previous version 2026.1.4 of the IDE.
